I first met Paulina when she lent her amazing makeup artist skills to a styled shoot I put together awhile back. We had kept in touch since then, and I was thrilled to find out that she was engaged. I was even more thrilled when she chose me to capture her very special day! Despite a bit of rain, Paulina was just glowing. Nelio and Paulina’s love for each other is so tangible, and it was obvious that everyone involved was over-the-moon excited for this sweet couple. I loved how colourful, fun and high-energy their reception was – from a hilarious photo booth (see below for vendor details) to a breathtaking first dance involving sparklers, it truly was an unforgettable night. Paulina and Nelio, thanks so much for trusting me to capture your wedding day. I hope you love your photos, and I wish you a lifetime of happiness!
(As always, thanks to my amazing second shooter/assistant Laura Purdy, who once again rocked it! Love having you by my side!)

Adorable children doing what makes THEM happy + pretty light + gorgeous setting = happy photographer
I loved these. There’s nothing better than capturing children’s natural expressions while engaging with their favourite things. Pretty light and a stunning locations were the cherry on top! Click here to see part 1, Par 2 will be posted tomorrow!
I can’t believe this is already the tenth edition of Project Ten – a blog circle connecting photographers in their unique interpretations of a common theme through ten photos on the tenth of every month.
This month’s theme was “layers”. My take: “Stripping Away The Layers”.
My amazing model, Britt, is an incredibly talented makeup artist. She was willing to go along with my crazy ideas at the last minute, and completely embodied my vision for this shoot. Not to mention, how gorgeous is she!?
Be sure to follow the blog circle to see everyone else’s take on the theme (link at bottom)!
Head over to the amazing Kelsie Taylor’s blog to see how she interpreted this month’s theme!
I have always drawn my biggest inspiration from people’s raw emotion – hence the business name. While amazing light, cute outfits, fun props and dreamy locations can all be amazing, if there’s no raw emotion, then that essential element is missing, and the image doesn’t speak to me as powerfully. Last Winter I introduced my annual children’s minis with an adorable vintage prop setup, and they were amazing. But I felt like they weren’t *me*. There are lots of photographers that really rock the props, and I love their creative work. But I knew that moving forward, my children’s minis would be different. Rather than pose children in my setup, I really wanted to capture them in theirs. I thought about my most treasured photos of my own daughter, and they are the ones that remind exactly what she was like, what she enjoyed, how she interacted, at the time the photo was taken. This is was I wanted to give my clients with minis. And this is how the “Do What You Love” Children’s Minis came to be. Parents were encouraged to bring their child’s favourite thing, and I brought my camera. Everything else was spontaneous and in the moment, and it was truly amazing to capture kids just being themselves. I absolutely loved these minis and I truly hope that each family treasures these images for a long time.
Here are some photos from the first night of minis. It was cold and gloomy and threatened to rain… but that didn’t stop us from capturing some really cute kiddos doing what they love.
When Pamela contacted me months before sweet Emma was due to book her newborn lifestyle session, I was thrilled and honoured. When I found out she was a fellow photographer, I was even more honoured! I’ve said it time and time again, but truly – it’s the biggest compliment and I am always so humbled and surprised and excited when my “colleagues” choose me to document the most important moments of their lives.
Baby Emma is so, so beautiful, with a full head of brown hair. There were a few tears the morning of our session, but what I love about lifestyle sessions is that those moments of crying and feeding and changing and soothing don’t just happen “in between” the sleepy baby shots. They are an integral part of the session, and we capture it all. I just love all the sweet moments we captured of Emma being comforted and doted on by her adoring parents. There really is nothing quite like those first magical (and tiring!) few weeks at home with a new baby, and it’s always so special for me to be invited to capture that. Here are some favourites from our session! -xo
It’s always a huge honour when a family trusts me with capturing their memories for them. But when that family includes a fellow photographer (check out Alysha’s beautiful work here), it’s extra special. The stylishly colour coordinated Joose Family travelled to London for their family photos on a beautiful sunny late-Summer evening. The weather was perfect and it was such a pleasure to have such a beautiful, fun-loving family in front of my lens. Here is a look at our session!
