When another photographer contacts you about photographing their family and is willing to travel to make it happen, it is the hugest compliment ever. I was so thrilled and honoured (and a little nervous) to be able to meet and photograph Michelle and Jake (from BODH Salon & Photography) and their sweet family. The setting sun was glorious, the mood was light, and the mosquitos were CRAZY. But despite the bugs, I had such a fabulous time with these beautiful people, and am so thankful I was given the opportunity to capture their love through my lens. Here are some favourites.
It was a beautiful, bright and cheery September day – perfect for a mid-morning brunch wedding at Greenhills Golf Club. The simple and elegant outdoor ceremony was perfection, the weather couldn’t have been better, and did I mention that their brunch buffet included a tier of DONUTS? I mean… heaven. Ben and Cheyney are such a sweet, laid back couple, and the fact that their wedding party was made up of Cheyney’s three sisters and Ben’s three brothers made for a super fun portrait time. I loved photographing this beautiful wedding – here are some of my favourites!
A big giant thank you to my dear friend and talented photographer Natalie Young of Mint Photography for second shooting/assisting! Always a treat to shoot alongside you Nat!
I’ve so enjoyed looking back on 2014 over the past few weeks and highlighting some of my favourites over on the Raw Footage Photography Facebook Page. Today I’m compiling those 20 images into a blog post and resisting the urge to add 20 (or 100!) more to the list. I am notoriously terrible at narrowing things down, and in the past my “yearly favourites” posts have included a ridiculous amount of images. I love all of my clients and feel attached to every session or wedding I photograph, so picking just 20 photos from the whole year was so hard. But I tried to pick the images that really speak to me as an artist, images I’m especially proud of and really represent my style and vision – either because they capture incredible natural light or raw, genuine emotion … or both (my two favourite things to photograph!). Here are my 20 favourites from 2014 in no particular order!
I finished this project a few weeks ago, but never got around to posting the last three weeks here on the blog. So here they are, weeks 50, 51 and 52. It’s been incredible watching my girl grow up over the past year, and I’ve loved documenting it in this way. At the end of the post, you can see a side by side comparison of weeks 1 and 52. If you’d like to browse through all 52 weeks, just use the “categories” tab to the left and select “52 portraits” under the “Mama Journal” category.
52 Portraits | Week 50
I watched you sing and dance your little heart out at your nursery school Christmas party this week, and seeing you so happy filled my heart with so much joy.
52 Portraits | Week 51
Another Christmas has passed, and my favourite memory of you is the joy and excitement you showed in making, wrapping and giving gifts to your family and friends, asking me how to spell “Je T’aime” on handmade cards and using up about 5 whole rolls of tape to yourself. I love your generous heart.
52 Portraits | Week 52
Whether you are offering me a hand to get up or a glass of water, making sure your papa is wearing a warm hat before walking the dog on a cold night, or kissing my 35-week pregnant belly while whispering “bonjour, ma petite princesse”, your nurturing heart is such a gift to your family.
