I’ve been excited to do my first mini sessions for a long time now. I’ve done a similar format for a school fundraiser in the past, but these were my first official “minis”. The fact that they were Mother’s Day minis made them all the more special, because as a new mom, I have a special place in my heart for the under-photographed mama!

Motherhood is so special. It is a state of constant giving, sacrificing, soothing, comforting and assisting. And yet it is the most rewarding, enlightening, inspirational and wonderful experience. I wanted these minis to give mothers the opportunity to capture that treasured bond between them and their littles and document this chapter in their story. I also wanted to give them the chance to actually be in the photos with their children, because I know all too well how rarely that happens when you are usually the one behind the camera trying to document your family’s milestones and special moments. Finally, I wanted to make these sessions special. I wanted the participating families to feel welcomed, valued and just a little bit pampered during their 15 minutes with me. I found a beautiful clearing in a wooded park and set up a table fit for, well, moms! Lace table cloth, pretty banner, and homemade cake pops to boot! The colour of the day was pink and the theme of the day was love. It was such an absolute pleasure to meet so many new clients and to see some familiar faces, too! I hope you all enjoyed these sessions as much as I did. I plan on making them a yearly event!

Lifestyle photography gets me excited. My biggest source of inspiration as a photographer is real life. Candid moments. The simple everyday. As a new mom, I am realizing that while props and outfits and creative sessions are fun, it’s the daily routine, the tiny details, the sweet everyday moments that I want to capture the most and remember always. The way my girl sits quietly in her room every morning and plays with her toys. Her rosy cheeks and long eyelashes when she’s asleep. The way she gets bubbles on her face in the tub and berries on her cheeks at lunch time. I want to remember the way her little hands have discovered how to turn the pages of a book and the way her little teeth peek through those rosy lips when she smiles her biggest smile. I would love to have a photographer come into my home sometime and do a lifestyle session with my entire family, but for now, I did a mini lifestyle shoot with just my girl recently, and I will treasure these photos forever. If you want to grasp onto those everyday moments with your family and capture them forever, you may want to consider a lifestyle session soon!

Meet Abbie, my lovely 14-year-old niece who I visited recently, along with the rest of her beautiful family. Abbie is a talented budding photographer and it’s one of the many things we have in common. We like to gush about golden hour sun flare and we quickly decided that during my visit, we would head out for a golden hour photo session. Well, it snowed that day, out of nowhere! And even once most of the snow had melted later that evening, the thick grey clouds still covered the sky, dashing our dreams of golden sun flare. But despite the cold and the clouds, and the fact that my baby girl was strapped to my chest in a sling during this entire session, we had so much fun. And sun flare or no sun flare, this girl is BEAUTIFUL. ♥ Here are favourites from our session!

London Ontario Photography | Announcing Father’s Day Mini Sessions!

The mother’s day minis went so well (blog post coming soon!), and I loved seeing all of the mamas and their littles and helping them capture moments that will be treasured forever. When a few of you asked about father’s day minis, naturally I was excited at the prospect!

One of my all time favourite photos from my childhood is of me riding on my papa’s back as he crawled around our living room floor. The joy that emanates from that photograph is tangible, and the memories it elicits are priceless. Whether you are a dad wanting to celebrate this Father’s Day by capturing memories with your children or a son or daughter offering this session as a gift to your father, I know you will cherish these photos forever! 3 generations (or more!) are welcomed!

I’ve decided to open up the evening of Saturday June 16th for father’s day mini sessions. As with the mother’s day minis, these will be 15 minute time slots in Gibbons Park(directions below) and you will receive 5 high res photos on disc for $45 ($40 if you share* the Facebook Flyer on your Facebook page by clicking the “share” button below it.)

Gibbons Park is located at the end of Victoria St. There is a large lot with free parking. Photo session location is indicated on the map below. There are washrooms on site, as well as walking trails and picnic tables if you decide to make a day out of it!

When Kristen emailed me with her idea to find railroad tracks for her family’s session, I got very excited. I’ve been wanting to shoot in this type of setting for some time now, and I jumped on the challenge of finding just the right spot. After a few days of location scouting (and some help from my husband who is on the road all day and sees lots of railroad tracks), we found a quiet little location that offered tracks, trees and fields. Perfect. I was totally smitten with little Everleigh’s cuteness and capturing this little family’s interactions together was such a joy. Is there anything sweeter than a parent’s loving gaze and a baby’s toothless grin? Here are a few photos from our session!

Here’s another entry for the monthly judged I Heart Faces photo challenge. This month’s theme is happiness. I was going through all of my recent photos of giant smiles and adorable giggles, but kept coming back to this one. It may be a little unexpected for a “happiness” theme, but right now there is no other photo that floods my heart with pure joy like this one. It is a sweet, quiet, subtle happiness that is pictured here. My lovely girl, peacefully asleep, and my mama heart so full of happiness as I watch her and think – there’s no other place I’d rather be than right here, watching your little eyelashes flutter and listening to the steady little breaths that escape your perfectly rosy lips.

London Ontario Photography | I Heart Faces Photo Challenge (Beautiful Black and White)

I entered my very first I Heart Faces Photo Challenge last week and was honoured to be chosen as one of the featured photos for the “letter A” theme. It was a great first experience, not only because my photo was recognized, but because I got to learn from so many other great photographers and be inspired by their beautiful work. I Heart Faces has now changed their challenge format from a weekly challenge to a monthly one, and this month’s theme is “Beautiful B&W”. I decided I would try and take new photos for every challenge I enter, since the goal of participating is to challenge myself creatively and keep growing and learning as a photographer. So when I snapped this bubble bath photo of my daughter Neve this morning, I knew it was the one.

London Ontario Children Photography | Kira in the Snow

I was so excited about this Winter session with Kira because most folks are still fairly skeptical about taking outdoor photos in the snow. This Winter (if we can even call it that!) has actually given us very few beautiful snowy days, so I was thrilled that this session fell on one of them. I’ve photographed Kira with her family before, but this shoot was all about her. She is so grown up and wise beyond her years, and she is absolutely gorgeous. Kira had all kinds of ideas for different poses and really enjoyed trying new things – basically, she is every photographer’s dream! Here are a few photos from our lovely session in the snow! (And, in case you are wondering, the cute headband is from the wonderful Whippy Cake shop!)
